Radon Mitigation Stevens PointElevated levels of radon gas in Stevens Point are very common in residential and commercial properties. Stevens Point is in a radon zone 1 which means homes are predicted to test above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. In a study done by the Wisconsin DHS from 1995-2016 they found that 48.3% of homes evaluated in Stevens Point had radon levels at or above 4.0pCi/L. This means that if your home is located in Stevens Point or anywhere in Portage County, you most likely have elevated radon levels. Thankfully, elevated radon gas levels can be removed from any home for good. Radon Mitigation System CostThe price for a radon mitigation system in Stevens Point is entirely dependent on the construction of the home. There aren’t really low end or ultra high end radon systems, there are simply systems that work effectively or not. We have created a specific set of questions that we can ask you over the phone or through email to generate an accurate estimate fast! The questions are fairly simple if you are familiar with the home, and if you have any issues answering we can walk you through it. Typically in Stevens Point, radon systems range from $1000-$1500, and again this is dependent on the build of the home. Some of the biggest factors are:

|
Is there a sump crock with drain-tile?
If there is a sump crock, what type of sump pump is in the crock? (Submersible or Pedestal?)
Does the home have an attached garage?
Is the basement finished, unfinished, a little of both?
Are there any gravel or dirt crawl spaces open to the basement?
There are other smaller factors that can help us determine placement and recommend upgrades, however the aforementioned questions are typically the most important. Older homes that do not have a sump crock or drain tile tend to land on the higher range of the $1000-$1500, because extra labor is required to dig out a proper suction pit and add on a more powerful fan. Newer homes with submersible sump pumps tend to fall on the lower end of the range. If you would like to find out what style of system will fit your home the best, give us a call! We can set you up with a free, no obligation estimate.

What is Radon Mitigation?
Radon mitigation is essentially the process of rerouting the radon gas that is constantly rising up from the soil to let it vent above the roofline to dissipate. Without the presence of a radon mitigation system, radon gets trapped underneath the home and seeps in through cracks in the concrete, the sump crock, open crawl spaces, or even pores of the concrete, and once it gets into the house it gets trapped inside. Radon is a dense gas, so it tends to stay in the lower levels of the home, however sometimes the homes heating a cooling system can carry the radon gas throughout the home. The most common style of radon mitigation is sub-slab depressurization. Sub-slab depressurization or (SSD) is the process of creating a negative pressure underneath the slab of the home to draw the radon gas coming up from the soil into the radon system to vent above the roof. Standard systems use either 3” or 4” piping and an in-line fan that runs constantly. If the home has drain-tile the system will pull air through the drain tile to achieve the negative pressure required and the sump crock will be sealed down air tight. If there is no drain-tile under the home, the system will be attached to a dug out suction pit under the slab. If the home has an open gravel or dirt crawlspace in the basement, that would need to be sealed down with a plastic vapor barrier. Open crawl spaces are a major source of entry for radon, so they need to be sealed airtight, and then a regular radon system can be installed afterwards. Radon Mitigation Companies Near Stevens Point
When calling around for estimates to fix your radon issue at your home in Stevens Point, it’s important to consider a few important factors. Radon mitigation in the state of Wisconsin is largely unregulated at the moment, so there is no law requiring companies to be certified for radon mitigation. Lifetime Radon is certified by the NRPP and AARST for radon mitigation, which are two of the largest proficiency programs in the country. Going with an uncertified contractor can lead to damaged drain-tile, fires, poor results, fake warranties, and poor communication. Additionally, when looking for the right contractor make sure they have a good track record on Google, Home Advisors, Angies List, and the BBB. We see a lot of companies go out of business in this industry, leaving all of their clients in the dark when it comes to servicing. Lifetime Radon is consistently rated 5 stars by homeowners throughout the state, and have been in business for over 21 years so you can be sure we will be there to help you if it comes time for servicing on your system.
