Radon Mitigation Oak CreekRadon levels in Oak Creek have tested higher than the national average. For this reason, radon mitigation in Oak Creek has become necessary for many homeowners. Radon gas is a noble gas which means it cannot be detected by any of your senses. The only way to detect radon gas is to properly test for it. The dangers of high levels of radon gas in your home may be a lot more serious than you may think. In fact the EPA estimated that around 20,000 people a year die from lung cancer caused by radon. If the levels of radon gas in your home come back higher than 4.0 pCi/L it is highly recommended that you take action to remediate it. Our company has been in the radon mitigation business for over 20 years and our technicians have over 30 years of radon mitigation experience combined. Let us help guide you through the radon testing and radon mitigation process for your home in Oak Creek.
Radon Testing Oak CreekStudies show that 1 in 10 homes in Wisconsin have elevated levels of Radon. In Oak Creek the risk may be much higher. In a study done by the Wisconsin DHS from 1995-2016 they found that 67% of homes evaluated in Oak Creek had radon levels at or above 4.0pCi/L.
Living in elevated levels of radon gas can be the equivalent of smoking 8 cigarettes a day or more or getting 200 chest X-rays a year. As mentioned before, the only way to know if you have a radon gas issue in your home is to properly test for it. We offer a multitude of radon testing options depending on your needs. The most simple test we offer is a DIY charcoal test kit. The charcoal test kit is easy to set up, takes 3-7 days to get results, and then is sent back to a lab to be analyzed. The charcoal test is perfect for homeowners who aren’t working on selling their home or working with a tight schedule. |

For a faster and more detailed testing option, we offer a short term digital monitor test. The digital monitor is set up in your home by one of our trained technicians and runs for about 48 hours. Once the testing is completed you will get the results instantly. This testing option is mostly used for real estate transactions and people who want fast and detailed results. If you are looking for detailed results over a long period of time to see how your radon levels fluctuate throughout the year, we offer a long term testing option that stays in the home for a minimum of 30 days. Radon Mitigation Installation Oak Creek
Once you have determined that your home is in need of a radon mitigation system, the next step is the installation. Installations take about 2-4 hours to complete and we can get rest results back to you after 48 hours if you are in the process of a real estate transaction. Every home is different, so each system is custom built to fit the home. The most common and effective systems that we install utilize the homes drain tile to draw out the radon from under the home. During installation we core a 4 inch hole in the floor where the drain tile is to insert a 3 inch PVC pipe. Once the pipe is in we seal the pipe and the sump crock down to get maximum suction under your home to draw that radon gas out. We seal the sump crock with a custom fitted cover made of clear lexan so you will still be able to see into your sump crock. After the piping is in and everything is sealed, we run the pipe up the wall, through the rim joist and either into the garage or outside to the exterior. The piping then runs up either the garage wall or the exterior wall and needs to extend at least 2 feet above the roofline per code. The fan is installed either inside of the garage or on the outside of the home depending on what style of mitigation system is right for the home. If your home does not have drain tile or a sump pump, the system is similar to the drain tile system in how it looks, but instead of tapping into that drain tile system, we have to dig what we call a suction pit. After coring the hole into the floor, we need to suck about about five gallons of material from under the home to create that suction pit. Once the suction pit is dug out, we can install a bigger fan to create enough of a vacuum under the slab to draw that radon gas out and reroute it through the piping. These are just a few of the most common options we use for homes in the Oak Creek area. Radon Mitigation System Value
As mentioned before, the health effects of radon gas cannot be ignored. Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer only to smoking. If you are not a smoker, but are living in high levels of radon gas you can be just as much at risk of getting lung cancer as a person who smokes a half a pack a day. If you ARE a smoker, you are at a high risk of developing lung cancer if you live in a home with elevated levels of radon gas. Installing a radon mitigation system may seem like a big cost, but it can keep you and your family safe. In addition to keeping you safe, radon mitigation systems also increase the value of your home. It is very difficult to sell a home with a high level of radon gas, and most of the time the buyer makes the seller install a radon system before they agree to buy. So, by installing a radon mitigation system for your home in Oak Creek, you are not only protecting your health, you are also increasing the value of your home.
