Radon Mitigation De Pere WIElevated radon gas levels have been found to be prevalent in De Pere. Brown County is at a moderate risk of elevated radon levels meaning homes are predicted to averaged between 2-4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter). In a study done by the Wisconsin DHS from 1995-2016 they found that 50.5% of homes evaluated in De Pere had radon levels at or above 4.0pCi/L. Because of this, radon mitigation in De Pere is becoming a popular home improvement project. For those who don’t know what radon mitigation is, it essentially works to continually draw air out from underneath your home, which in turn draws out the radon gas which is rising up from the soil. The system consists of 3 or 4 inch PVC piping and a specifically designed inline radon fan. Lifetime Radon has been installing radon mitigation systems in De Pere and all of Brown County for over two decades, and our goal is to help every homeowner understand the dangers of radon, and assist them with removing it from their homes. Radon Abatement De Pere WIThere exist multiple methods and styles of radon mitigation to fit each home. Every home is different which means every radon mitigation system has to be tailored to each home in order to get the levels as low as possible. The most popular styles of radon mitigation systems are exterior style systems and garage style systems. What these are referring to is where the piping vents out and where the fan is placed on the home. Where the piping starts in the basement and what method is used to draw the radon from underneath the slab varies from home to home but the most common methods are drain tile depressurization and sub-slab depressurization.

Drain tile depressurization
Drain tile depressurization refers to the method used to draw the radon out from underneath the soil. This method requires the home to have a sump crock with drain tile underneath the home which is normally used for drainage but can also be used for radon mitigation. With this method, the mitigation system pulls airflow through the drain tile by accessing the tile either through the sump crock or by coring a 4 inch hole into the basement floor to access it directly. This is the most effective style of radon medication because of how much surface area drain tile covers underneath the home, which allows the entire basement to be evenly mitigated. Usually newer homes built past the 60s fit the style of system.
Sub slab depressurization
For homes that do not have a sump crock or drain tile underneath their home, the method that we must use is sub-slab depressurization or SSD. What this requires is the removal of 6 to 10 gallons worth of soil underneath the homes foundation to create a collection point. The piping is then connected to the collection point and run the same way as a drain tile depressurization system. What we are trying accomplish with this system is similar to the drain tile depressurization system although the suction pit covers less surface area than drain tile depressurization does. We find both methods effective for lowering the majority of homes levels to a safe range.
Garage style systems
After it’s been determined what kind of method is going to be used to draw the radon out from underneath your home, it is now time to determine what style of system you will receive in terms of where the piping and fan will be placed. For a garage sale system to be possible we need an unfinished area of the basement that sits on the same side as where an attached garage is on the home. The style of system runs mostly interior through the home which means the only visible exterior part of the system is going to be a vent stack on the garage roof. The piping starts in the basement, runs up the basement wall, through the joist, and into the garage. Once inside of the garage, the mitigation fan is placed and the piping extends up and through the roof. This is the most popular style system for homeowners because it it is the most pleasing to the eye, and many times we can use existing electrical in the garage to save the homeowner money on the system. Many companies charge extra for garage systems because of the labor involved compared to an exterior style system, however, we can actually save you money sometimes on this style of system.
Exterior style systems:
When the garage system is not possible on the home or not preferable, an exterior radon system is always a possibility. Exterior systems are the most commonly done systems in the US, and chances are you have seen a few around the neighborhood. The method of suction in the basement stays the same as the aforementioned style of system, but instead of running through the garage, the piping is run to the exterior. Due to strict regulations, the piping must extend above the roofline, and the fan must be on the exterior as well. Additionally, the fan cord cannot be run back through the joist to plug in, so we need an electrical source on the exterior. This usually requires the assistance of a master electrician, which we can coordinate for you. We fully understand the need to maintain your homes aesthetics, so we do everything in our power to hide these systems on the home, and will work with you for the ideal placement.

Radon Companies Near De Pere WI
When searching for the right company to fit your radon mitigation needs you will most likely run into multiple options and different pricing. Similar to other service based businesses there exist trustworthy, reliable and experienced companies, and some that are just in it for a quick buck. In Wisconsin, it’s not required by law to hold a license for radon mitigation, so there are many fly by night companies who install systems with little experience. This may work with a few homes, but with most homes in De Pere, there doesn’t exist a one size fits all type of radon mitigation system, or at least not one that will work. Hiring an inexperienced contractor can result in damage to your drain tile system, shoddy electrical work, and being stuck with a system that isn’t effective with no one to service it. When calling around, make sure you choose a certified contractor with a good reputation online that will ask you in depth questions about your home before giving you a price. If you call a company who gives you a flat rate without inquiring about your home, you will be taken for a ride on install day. Lifetime Radon has been in business for over two decades, holds certifications through AARST and the NRPP, and is fully insured. Don’t risk it, go with a company that will do things right the first time.
