Radon Mitigation FranklinChances are that if you live in the Franklin area you have at least heard of radon. Whether it be through a neighbor having a radon mitigation installed, or a friend talking about having their home tested, the word is out. The reason radon testing and mitigation has become so prevalent in the Franklin area is because Franklin sits in an orange zone. An orange zone or zone 2 is an area the EPA has taken data from and has an average of 2 to 4pCi/L. It is very important for homeowners in any zone to take action and have their home tested for radon gas, but especially important for homes in an orange or red zone. In a study done by the Wisconsin DHS from 1995-2016, 64.8% of the homes they sampled in Franklin tested at or above 4.0pCi/L. Homes that test over 4.0pCi/L will have to take action sooner or later, because most real estate transactions these days demand radon mitigation when the home tests above 4. However, whether you are selling your home or not, it is strongly advised to have your home mitigated if you have levels above 2.7pCi/L which is the World Health Organizations action level. Radon seeps into your home from the soil and if it’s inhaled over time it can cause lung cancer. In fact, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non smokers. Initial testing for radon gas is super easy and costs far less than you may think. There really is no reason to not test your home at least once to see if you may have a radon problem. Radon Testing FranklinRadon is completely undetectable unless it is properly tested for. Whether you want to simply get a short term average of your levels from an affordable charcoal test kit, a detailed report of your radon levels from a monitor set up by a professional, or a test that can take an average of your levels for up to a year, we can help you out! The key to knowing what test will suit you is to know why you are testing.
Initial testing: If you have never tested your home before and are not selling at the moment, the best place to start is usually the AirChek charcoal testing kit. This kit can be had for as little as $20 and can give you a good average of your levels in a 3-7 day period. |

Testing for a real estate transaction: The only testing option that we would recommend if you are having a test done for a home you are selling or a home you are looking to buy, is the short term Corentium Pro digital test. This style of radon testing involves a radon pro coming out to your home in Franklin to place the test, and then once completed you receive a detailed report of your levels hour by hour electronically. In a hurry? This test can be set and completed with the full report sent, in 3 days flat.
Have had prior tests that have been on the fringe: Many homeowners who have done testing in the past that didn’t come back above 4.0 but were close are usually interested in getting a longer average of their homes levels throughout the year. In this case we would recommend the Alpha Track long term canister. This test will give you an average of your radon gas levels for up to an entire year.
Retesting every two years: Whether you have a radon mitigation system installed already, or you have tested in the past but it came back low, the EPA still recommends testing every two years. In this case, we would recommend either the charcoal kit or the digital test depending on how detailed of a report you would like. In either case, you will get a good average that will determine whether or not your levels are still low.
No matter what your reason for testing is, we can help! If you would like to find out what test is best for you, or would like to order one of these options give us a call, we are eager to help homeowners stay safe from radon!

Radon Abatement Franklin
Once it has been determined that your home has a radon gas problem, it is time to start the process of having it safely removed. The removal of radon gas from the home goes under many names (radon mitigation, radon abatement, radon reduction, radon removal, etc.) but the process stays the same no matter who you call. There isn’t a one size fits all radon system for every home, but depending on how your home is built and a few key factors, there are processes that can be tailored to fit the perfect system for your home. Some homeowners call us asking if it’s even possible to mitigate their home because they don’t have a basement, or they have a walkout, or their home is built into a hill etc. But the fact is, we have never run into a home that we couldn’t mitigate. If you live in a house, condo, apartment, or even a skyscraper, we can mitigate it.
After you have received a free estimate from our company and you make the decision to move forward with the install, one of our certified radon pro’s will come to your home and start the process. The first thing the technician will do is walk through the basement and the possible exits points for the system in the home. Most of the time there are a few options available that the technician can work with you to decide on. Installations take 2-4 hours to install, and once completed we leave a retest to show you that we got the levels to an acceptable point. Crawl Space Encapsulation
If your home has a crawl space in the basement that is open to the gravel or dirt, that is something that needs to be addressed. Sometimes if the radon levels are already fairly low, the radon system itself can solve the issue, but most of the time the crawl space needs to be sealed for the system to work. Crawl spaces open to the dirt are the biggest sources of radon entry into the home and also can cause a musty smell in the home. To seal down a crawl space we put a vapor barrier over the entire area and seal it to the walls. Once the barrier is in place, the piping from the mitigation system is attached to the barrier to allow the now trapped gases to be vented out. Not only does this help with the removal of radon gas from the basement, but it also helps with the musty smell the crawl space can cause and can drastically reduce moisture in the basement.
