Radon Mitigation Caledonia WIIs radon really a threat? Well, it’s estimated that over 20,000 Americans a year die from lung cancer caused by radon gas. Radon levels in Caledonia and most of Wisconsin skew higher than most other areas of the US, so it’s even more important if you live in this area, to have a proper radon test done and a mitigation system installed if the test shows an elevated level. In a study done by the Wisconsin DHS from 1995-2016 they found that 57.3% of homes they evaluated in Caledonia had radon levels at or above 4.0pCi/L. Don’t be worried though, any home can be mitigated from radon gas no matter how old it is or how large or small. Testing and mitigating radon gas from homes is our specialty and we have perfected the process to make it easy for homeowners in Caledonia to free themselves of this harmful gas. Quotes for mitigation systems can be done in one of three ways, either over the phone, through email or in person, and the nice thing is, our estimates and completely free of charge! If you are looking into radon testing, we offer four different options in Caledonia. All of our radon testing options have their own benefits to suit your needs, so whether you need the test done quickly for a real estate transaction, or want a long term average, we have you covered. To find out what style of radon test will suit your needs, give us a call or fill out the contact form on this site! If it is determined that a radon mitigation system is needed in your home, as mentioned before we can give you a free estimate and then usually get you on the schedule for install within a week! Installations usually take around 2-4 hours and once completed you can get retest results in under a week, so the entire process truly is painless. Our installations follow all of the EPA standards for radon mitigation and we are fully certified by two of the largest radon certification organizations in the country. We will always find the best possible area to install your new radon mitigation system, and because of our large office staff, we will always be here to answer your calls after installation if you have questions or issues. Not a lot of other companies have the ability to come out for servicing, and many are very unreliable when it comes to answering the phone or getting back to you on the same day. Radon Removal Caledonia WI
There are two main methods of removing the radon gas from underneath the home to vent safely above the roofline, those methods are called drain-tile depressurization, and sub-slab depressurization. There is also a method of removing radon from the home that involves depressurizing the crawlspace if the home has a dirt or gravel crawl open to the basement. The method that will be used on your home is completely dependent on how the home is constructed.
Drain-tile Depressurization: In homes that have a sump crock and drain tile, the radon mitigation system will be pulling airflow from the drain tile system to create a negative pressure underneath the slab. This negative pressure will draw the radon gas coming up from the soil into our piping to be dissipated above the roof into the air. This method requires the sump crock to be sealed and is the most effective way to mitigate radon gas from a home because of how much surface area a drain tile system covers. This is the most common radon mitigation method used in Caledonia.
Sub-slab Depressurization: In homes that do not have a sump crock with drain tile, a much different method must be used to create the negative pressure needed to draw the radon gas into our system. With this method, 6-10 gallons worth of soil will be dug out from underneath the slab of the basement to create a collection point. After that collection point is created, the pipe is sealed to that and then runs the same way as any other system.
Crawl Space Depressurization: If the home has a crawl space completely open to the dirt or gravel in the basement, this is probably the biggest source of entry for radon. In these cases, the crawlspace needs to be completely sealed down with plastic sheeting and will have a pipe connected to the sheeting to draw the gases out from underneath the sheeting. Not only does this help with radon mitigation, but this method will also help with moisture and the musty smell that is most likely emitting from the space. If your home in Caledonia has a dirt or gravel crawlspace, we do recommend setting up an in-person estimate so we can determine the best course of action.

Radon in Water Caledonia
When researching radon, many homeowners come across information regarding the possibility of having radon in their private well. At Lifetime Radon we do offer testing for radon in private wells, however we have found that it is quite rare. Radon in a water source is not harmful unless it gets to over 10,000 pCi/L, and at that point it will start to emit the gas into the air at a measurable level. Radon is only harmful when inhaled into the lungs, so if the water itself isn't at an ultra high level that will get into the air above 4.0pCi/L then it most likely doesn’t need to be addressed. The water measurement for radon gas to get in the air strictly from the well at a level of 4.0pCi/L the water would have to test at 40,000pCi/L which is extremely rare in this area. Additionally, radon in water is only a concern for homeowners with private wells, city water is not affected. The best thing to do with your home if you are concerned about radon is to test their air in your home first, install a radon mitigation system if it’s needed, and then if the levels are still not where you would like them to be, test the water source.
